Quick answer
How are the figures on this site checked?
Every figure on batteryarbitrage.co.uk is checked against a primary source such as Ofgem, HMRC, MCS or the supplier that publishes a tariff. We date the figures we quote, review them at least quarterly and correct errors within five working days. We never publish savings claims, star ratings or figures we cannot trace.
Last updated:
batteryarbitrage.co.uk publishes independent guidance on battery arbitrage, VPPs, and energy markets. All factual claims are checked against primary sources before publication.
Where do your facts come from?
- Ofgem — SEG rates, supplier obligations
- MCS — installer certification, MIS 3002 yield standards
- Scottish Government — building standards and Heat in Buildings policy
- HMRC — trading allowance, tax treatment
- Peer-reviewed academic journals (DOI-verified)
How often do you check the figures?
Tariff rates, tax rules and scheme dates are reviewed at least quarterly and after any announced policy change. The review date is printed on every page that quotes a figure.
What will you never publish?
- We never invent a fact to fill a gap — unverifiable claims are removed, not replaced.
- We never present modelled or illustrative figures as guaranteed returns.
- We never publish a tariff rate or tax figure we cannot trace to a current official source.
- We never claim accreditations we do not hold. Installation is by our partner, Home Heating Services (Scotland) Ltd — MCS IAA10151, TrustMark 3559930, Gas Safe 559575.

Why we do not publish savings figures
What a home battery is worth depends on the tariff, the household's usage, the property and how the battery is set up. A sandstone tenement flat on grid arbitrage and an off-gas farmhouse with solar behave very differently, so a single headline number would mislead more people than it helps. Instead we explain the principle and a no-obligation survey gives figures for your home. Where we quote tariff rates, we date them and name the supplier or source.
Writing for Scottish homes
Our guides are written for Scotland. We point out where rules differ from England and Wales, and we name the right network operator for each area: SP Energy Networks for the central belt and south, and SSEN for the north and the islands.
How we describe VAT and finance
Tax wording follows official HMRC guidance. Solar panels and batteries are described as 0% VAT until March 2027. The only finance wording we use is "Finance available, subject to status". We do not publish star ratings or testimonials, and we describe our installation arrangement simply: we install through MCS-certified partners.
